Jonathan Gleason is a writer, teacher, and medical interpreter. He recently completed his MFA in creative writing at the University of Iowa. His manuscript "Field Guide to Falling Ill" is the winner of the inaugural Yale Nonfiction Book Prize and will be published in Fall/Winter 2025.

He is a recipient of a 2023 grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation. His work is anthologized in Best American Essays (2024) and has appeared in The Sun Magazine, Literary HubKenyon ReviewNew England ReviewColorado Review, Michigan Quarterly Review, Indiana Review, and many others.

Yale Nonfiction Book Prize

Meghan O’Rourke, acclaimed nonfiction writer, poet, and editor of The Yale Review, has named Jonathan Gleason as the first winner of the Yale Nonfiction Book Prize for his essay collection Field Guide to Falling Ill.
